Additional Staff Members Selected

Congratulations to SD Wing's C/2d Lt AJ Betzeler on being selected as the 2009 Joint Dakota Cadet Encampment Cadet Commander.   In addition, Maj Randy Borton, from SD Wing, has been selected as the Encampment Deputy Commander.  Col Mary Donley, Former SD Wing Commander, has accepted the position of Finance Officer.

This will be an Emergency Services encampment, and we are working to develop training that it is not easy to get at the home unit, such as first aid, communications, and hands-on DF work in the field.  Of course, we are also working with the base to arrange tours of facilities and do the kinds of cool stuff you only can do on an Air Force base.  We also anticipate our traditional encampment trip to Mount Rushmore on one  of the evenings.  More details on these activities and training as we get them firmed up.

The encampment will be housed in the Rushmore Inn, which was built as Airman's quarters.  A picture of the outside is attached. It is within walking/marching distance of the dining hall, and other facilities such as the base theater.  There is a large parking lot that we can keep open for drill and a grassy area close by that I think would be suitable for morning PT, etc.

Staff applications will be announced soon.  Cost TBD.

JDCE 2009 Commander and Location Announced

Below is an article from the North Central Region News announcing that
we are accepting command staff applications for the 2009 Joint Dakota
Encampment.

At this time, we are looking for Deputy Commander, Commandant of Cadets,
and Cadet Commander.

There is no deadline, as such, but we need to get these positions filled
so we can begin planning the encampment, which will be on base at
Ellsworth AFB and will focus on emergency Services.

If you are interested in any of these three key positions, please submit
your applications promptly.  Do not hesitate to contact me if you have
questions.  Also, please forward this message to anyone who may be
interested who does not receive this message directly.

Mike Marek, LtCol, CAP
2009 Joint Dakota Encampment Commander

For Immediate Release

Applications are being received for the command staff of the 2009
Joint Dakota Encampment, to be held at Ellsworth AFB, Rapid City, SD, in
July.
"We’re going to have an exciting encampment this summer," said
Lt.Col. Mike Marek, encampment commander. "This will be an Emergency
Services encampment, which the joint North Dakota-South Dakota
encampment program has not done for a few years.  But we’ll also be on
an active duty Air Force Base. He is already making plans for the
encampment members to visit some really cool facilities and do some
challenging things on base."  Marek added that he also expects that the
cadets will get a chance to visit Mount Rushmore and do ground team
training in the Black Hills National Forest.
Staff training for the encampment is scheduled for Friday, July
10, 2009.  Attendees will arrive Saturday July 11 and return home Sunday
July 19.
"Right now, we need to get the command staff appointed," noted
Marek. "We’re accepting applications for the senior member Deputy
Commander and Commandant of Cadets, as well as for Cadet Commander."
Applicants for these three positions should submit CAPF 31 to
South Dakota Wing Headquarters.  Applications for these specific
positions may be emailed to
ncrsd001@earthlink.net, followed by hard
copies, if selected.  Applications for other staff will be conducted
following announcement of the command staff.

Hey! I'm home! I slept in till like 10:00 today! So, are you an official Hobble yet? I hope not. I wanted to say thank you for kinda welcoming me to Encampment.
Things like helping me with my rank pins, and being silly in the helicopter, and 'akward turtles' really helped.  I was so totally scared on the first day!
Anyway, don't limp too much at pass and review! :)

To: Hetzel, Jamie,
Hey! I'm home! I slept in until like 10:00 today! I really wish I could be there for pass and review, but, oh well.
I can't believe that I was only gone a week! It feels like a year! I can't even remember what I did last week! I am sooooo gonna miss everyone that I met at Encampment, you included. Have any more akward turtle moments with Hawaii and Miasek? Hee-hee, I'm evil. I wanted to tell you that the slide-show you guys put on was great.  Well, Bye for now, I'll try to e-mail your actual account when you are at home (after Encampment).

Cadet Alex Wehrung, I sent you an email but I guess it got lost, so I'm sending you another. Awesome on the wall! I can't say I could do that but I bet it was fun and scary at the same time! I wish we would have known about "pass and review" as we would have been sure to be there. Know that Dad and I are there with you in spirit:). Can't wait to see you. I bet you are all mature and grown up now. We are so very proud of you. Ian said he is jealous he wishes he could do all that cool stuff. Well we'll see you tommorow. We love you Alex.
